College Baseball Prospect Update: Pitchers 2.20.11

Pac 10

Adam Plutko – RHP – UCLA – Fr. 6IP 2H 0ER 1BB 4K (W, 1-0). Proud (I’m sure) member of the Prospect Junkies preseason Freshman All American team.

Dean McArdle – RHP – Stanford – So. 5IP 3H 0ER 1BB 4K (W, 1-0). McArdle finished the season as the Sunday starter as a freshman. Looks like he’s in the same role as a So. Stanford finishes off in impressive series win (2-1) at Rice.

SEC

Karsten Whitson – RHP – Florida – Fr. 5IP 1H 0ER 1BB 9K. (W, 1-0). The unsigned ’10 1st round pick is already a candidate to go #1 overall in ’13.

Alex Meyer – RHP – Kentucky – Jr. 7IP 3H 2ER 3BB 13K (L, 0-1). A loss but still encouraging for one of the most electric arms in the 2011 draft after struggling in his first 2 years at Kentucky.

Big 12

  1. Check out Jordan Dean at Kennesaw State, he is a middle reliever lowest ERA (1.93) on the team. He is a Senior, has only been a pure pitcher the last couple of years. He pitched 2.2 innings in relief at Georgia Tech earlier this year held them to no runs. I look for him to be a sleeper, has good speed and movement. Some team will grab him and clean up his mechanics. Remember the name Jordan Dean, one of the sleepers in this draft!
