Throughout this NCAA postseason, we’ll be giving you updates on how the recent MLB Draftees are performing as well as highlighting performances from select players that will hear their name called in 2012 and beyond.
Austin Super Regional
Taylor Jungmann had never lost a game at home prior this NCAA Tournament when he dropped the Regional opener to Kent State and now he’s lost his second despite a strong performance. Arizona State played most of the season under the assumption that they would be barred from participating in post season play but when their appeal wasn’t ruled upon by the time the selection rolled around, the Sun Devils were selected to host. Now they’re just a win away form Omaha.

UNC entered the season unranked in what was supposed to be a down year while the underclassman laden Stanford squad entered the year viewed as a team that is maybe a year away from Omaha. Patrick Johnson has been as good as any pitcher in the nation and that didn’t stop on Friday night.

Florida, the #1 team in the nation for much of the season, is without two stalwarts in the middle of their lineup this weekend. Sophomore two way players Austin Maddox (1B/RHP) and Brian Johnson (DH/LHP) but both may be ready in Omaha if the Gators advance.

Nashville Super Regional
Top to bottom, I think Vanderbilt and Florida have the best teams in this tournament and they looked like the two best teams in the nation on Friday, both winning handily. Freshman little man Tony Kemp continues to be a table setter for the Dores while Westlake and Esposito drive in runs and provide veteran leadership.
Sonny Gray – RHP. 6.2IP 4H 1ER 2BB 4K. Gray didn’t have his best stuff but showed maturity and confidence to battle. Helps that he had a big lead. Drafted by the Oakland Athletics (1st Round)
Corey Williams – LHP 2.1IP 0H 0ER 0BB 3K. Williams spits a 95MPH fastball from the left side. Easy to see why he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins (3rd Round)
Jason Esposito – 3B 2-4 HR (9) 3RBI. Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles (2nd Round)
Aaron Westlake – 1B 0-2 3BB 2R. Drafted by the Detroit Tigers (3rd Round)
