Jordan’s younger brother Justus was selected in the first round in 2014 and is one of the top prospects in the Cleveland system.  Jordan was on his way to first round contention himself in 2013 before needing Tommy John surgery.

SCOUTED:  Oklahoma Sooners @ West Virginia Mountaineers, April 18, 2015.  Morgantown, WV.

A product of Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas, Neuse was a highly regarded prep prospect.  Ranked as the 303rd best prospect in the 2013 draft by Baseball America, Neuse slid to the 38th round thanks, in part, to his strong college commitment to Oklahoma.

In previous write ups, I’ve mentioned how Florida plucked A.J. Puk from Iowa, and Buddy Reed from Rhode Island.  They didn’t need to go as far to recruit Dane Dunning.  Pitching for Clay High School, just 50 miles away from Gainesville, Dunning earned All-State honors and was ranked as the 490th best player in the 2013 draft by Baseball America.

In what’s shaping up to be a banner year for Midwest high school baseball, Gavin Lux joins Ben Rortvedt and Cooper Johnson as potential early round picks coming from the Illinois/Wisconsin area.  Combine them with class blue chippers Riley Pint and Joey Wentz from Kansas, and the Heartland of America now looks like a major manufacturer of talent in this year’s draft crop.

Undrafted out of Shiloh HS in Snellville, Georgia, Lewis went to nearby Mercer University where he had a solid but unspectacular freshman season before bursting onto the scene as a sophomore.

Thaiss was twice named First-Team All-State out of Jackson Memorial High School (N.J.) before the Red Sox selected him in the 32nd round in the 2013 draft.  Rather than signing, Thaiss elected show up on campus in Charlottesville.

SCOUTED:  Toledo Rockets @ Wright State Raiders.  April 15, 2016.  Dayton, Ohio.

Sean Murphy is from Centerville, Ohio.  Elk Pride!  Undrafted before heading to Wright State, Murphy contributed right away for the Raiders.  Murphy earned Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors in 2014 after he hit .301/.390/.442 with 4 home runs and 10 stolen bases.
