The Cardinals didn’t need to go far to recruit Will Smith, who went to nearby Kentucky Country Day in Louisville where he was a two time all-state performer.  After managing 77  at bats in 39 games as a freshman, Smith opened this 2015 season batting cleanup behind Corey Ray.

Jordan’s younger brother Justus was selected in the first round in 2014 and is one of the top prospects in the Cleveland system.  Jordan was on his way to first round contention himself in 2013 before needing Tommy John surgery.

SCOUTED:  Oklahoma Sooners @ West Virginia Mountaineers, April 18, 2015.  Morgantown, WV.

A product of Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, Texas, Neuse was a highly regarded prep prospect.  Ranked as the 303rd best prospect in the 2013 draft by Baseball America, Neuse slid to the 38th round thanks, in part, to his strong college commitment to Oklahoma.

In previous write ups, I’ve mentioned how Florida plucked A.J. Puk from Iowa, and Buddy Reed from Rhode Island.  They didn’t need to go as far to recruit Dane Dunning.  Pitching for Clay High School, just 50 miles away from Gainesville, Dunning earned All-State honors and was ranked as the 490th best player in the 2013 draft by Baseball America.
